SUFFOCATING IN DISTANCE [2025]

What is SUFFOCATING IN DISTANCE concept?
“Suffocating in Distance” recreates the internal emotional experience of anxious-ambivalent attachment through interactive imagery. Individuals with this attachment style oscillate between a deep yearning for intimacy and an instinctive urge to withdraw—when others come close, they feel the impulse to escape; when others grow distant, they become anxious and unsettled.

Utilizing 3D scanning technology, point cloud particle effects, and camera-based distance tracking, the installation visually manifests this psychological conflict: as the viewer approaches, the on-screen representation of the “self” gradually shrinks and recedes; as the viewer moves away, the “self” expands and draws closer.

This dynamic transformation symbolizes the emotional fluctuations of individuals with ambivalent attachment, offering viewers a tangible, visualized experience of the tension and contradictions inherent in such relational patterns. Through this immersive engagement, the project deepens the understanding of the psychological struggles and push-pull dynamics within attachment behaviors.
